Recently, I was involved with a birth mother from Milton who made an open adoption plan for her unborn daughter.  Through the months, I witnessed the birth parents and the adoptive parents spending time together talking and getting to know each other as they prepared for the birth of this little girl.  It was an emotional situation for everyone, but even more than that, the love they had for this baby who was not even born yet, love became the common thread.  During the process, the adoptive parents grew to love this baby’s birth mother and her siblings as well.  I saw open adoption really play out in an amazing way!

Even the birth mother’s mother played a part and was reassured that her granddaughter would be so loved!  The birth mother’s choice to place her child for adoption turned into a plan where many people in  both families played a part.  After the adoptive parents returned home, the adoptive mom called and told me she had cards and letters from family and friends for the birth mom thanking her for choosing this family to raise her child!  More love shown to this brave birth mother by an ever increasing circle of love!
I think most people would agree that it is impossible for a child to be loved by too many people.  My wish for this child is that she may one day know just how much she was loved even before she was born! And that without her courageous birth mother’s choice to place her for a adoption with a loving family, she may have never known so many different kinds of love.  What had started as an unplanned baby, became a planned placement of this child made with love.
