Today on the last day of May, the month we celebrate moms of all kinds, I want to close this month out by sharing just a bit more about amazing women who choose adoption for their children.
In the last couple of weeks, I have had the privilege to be a part of two very courageous birth moms choice to place their children with loving adoptive families. I had a chance to speak to one of these ladies the other day after she left the hospital. One of the things she said was that she happened to look at the adoptive father as she was being wheeled out for her c section, and she was taken aback by the tears streaming down his face. She said she wondered why he was crying. I, of course being an adoptive parent myself, instantly knew why! The better question would be why wouldn’t he be crying!? I know exactly why he was crying and can totally relate to feeling emotionally overwhelmed by this young woman’s courage and determination to follow through with her adoption plan to give her child all she wanted her to have.
I took this opportunity to remind this incredibly strong and selfless woman that she was just that she was just that! I believe I can speak for adoptive parents in general to say that we are humbled and overwhelmed with gratitude by becoming parents through someone else’s unselfish decision to put her own needs and wants to the side in the best interest of her child. It makes perfect sense to me that this adoptive father was crying! I am sure he wished he could be the one to take some of the physical and emotional pain from this young woman. I am sure he thought about how he would one day share with his child about that day where he actually witnessed the love of her birth mother. It makes perfect sense that he was brought to tears by his thoughts and emotions during this time
It’s obvious that the bravery and strength of this young birth mother was not lost on this adoptive father that day. Clearly his emotions acknowledged her incredibly unselfish act. And one more time this month where we recognize moms of all kinds. I want to remind the women that choose adoption for their children that they are indeed heroes. As an adoptive mother myself, I can say that parenting my children is the best thing that has ever happened to me and much like that adoptive adoptive father, it is not lost on me that I would have never had this opportunity without a birth mother’s loving choice.
I would love to hear from any of the women that I have worked with in the past. I would love to know how you are doing and where life is taking you. Call us anytime (850) 577-3077.
