What is a closed adoption?
Closed adoption is a type of adoption in which the birth parents have no direct contact with their child and the adoptive family, and little information is exchanged between the two parties.
What’s better – a closed or open adoption?
As adoption professionals in Florida, one thing that we know to be true is that no two adoption situations are the same. Every woman who makes an adoption plan has followed a unique path, and made her decision for her own reasons. That’s why there is no right or wrong decision when it comes to deciding whether you’d like to have an open, semi-open or closed adoption. You’ll simply need to think about what you’d like your future to look like and how the post-adoption relationship fits into that.
Can I still get updates and photos if I choose closed adoption?
Yes. Even if you’d like to have a closed adoption, photos and updates can still be sent to our adoption law firm and saved in a file for you, if requested by you in the adoption plan.
If I choose to take this path, will I still get to choose the adoptive family?
Absolutely. Every single woman who makes an adoption plan with our adoption law firm in Florida is able to choose the right adoptive family for her baby. If you’d rather not choose the family, that’s fine too. We will place your baby with a waiting family that matches any criteria you’ve given us.
Can you help me find a family to adopt my baby?
Yes. You will not need to go out and find the family on your own. We have a roster of waiting adoptive families who have all been pre-screened and are home study approved to adopt. How much information do I have to share with the adoptive family?
With a closed adoption, all that we request is that you provide us with some background information. This may include things like your medical and social history, as well as your family medical history. This sort of information gives the adoptive family the chance to plan for any health scenarios that may arise. This information, however, will be given to the adoptive family in a manner that keeps your identity anonymous. Beyond that, how much information you share is completely up to you.
